The
safety of our team is a top priority. Before our trip, we
orient the team for specific health and safety issues that
they should be aware of. We also require each participant
to get all necessary shots. We will be close to medical
facilities and at least half of our team will be physicians and
nursing staff. A group of ladies from Restoration
Church (our Honduran Host) prepare our
lunches. They have been our
providers with previous teams so we can be sure that the
food and beverages consumed by our team are safe. We
will purchase dinner at local fast food places
(Burger King, Pizza Hut, etc)
Despite
what some people have been led to believe, Honduras is a
peaceful country. We don't however take our safety for
granted and we do take all necessary precautions to
ensure the safety of our team. At all times the people
from Restoration Church and friends are being watchful
and caring for our wellbeing during our stay in
their country.
Our team will be working
with other medical/evangelical volunteers from
Restoration Church in San Pedro Sula (second
largest urban concentration in Honduras). They
are experienced in handling medical teams and
the locals so we only have to be concerned about
our role on diagnostic and treatment
responsibilities. They will handle registration
and any other logistics related to our work
there.
Currently,
we have finalized the first floor of a clinic in
their property and a pharmacy services people on
a weekly basis. They do not have full-time staff
yet but we are seeking volunteers both in
Honduras and here to take on this much needed
project.
